After School Care / Schoo-Age Care
As a Religious Exempt Accrediting Agency for Child Care Programs, FCCPSA offers accreditation for an After School Care/School-Age Child Care Program providing that the program is an integral part of a church and the staff meets the background screening requirements per Florida statute.
What is an After School Care/School-Age Child care Program?
Definitions:
- 1. “Before-School and After-School site” refers to a program that provides child care for children who are at least 5 years old and are enrolled in and attend a kindergarten program or grades one and above during a school district’s academic calendar year. This is limited to programs that provide care only before and after the recognized hours of a district’s school day and on teacher planning days, holidays, and intercessions that occur during the school district’s official academic calendar year.
- 2. “School-Age Child” means a child who is at least 5 years of age by September 1st of the beginning of the school year and who attends kindergarten through grade five.
- 3. “School-Aged Child Care Program” means a Religious Exemption from Licensure child care program serving school-aged children as defined in #1.
- 4. Capacity: Rooms that are set up and used for sedentary activities must have a minimum of 20 square feet of usable floor space per child.
- 5. The program environment must provide dedicated usable safe space for all activities during hours of operation.
- 6. The space must be arranged to be conducive for simultaneous social, recreational and educational activities.
- 7. The outdoor space must be sufficient and safe to allow freedom of movement without collisions among active children. There must be a minimum of 45 square feet of usable safe and sanitary outdoor play area for each school-age child.
- 8. Ratios: the staff to child ratio must be at least one (1) child care personnel for every twenty-five (25) school-age children in care (1:25).
